the Ritual-Master
SkekZok the Ritual-Master thought to hold all control of the life of the court in his own hands. He had the ear of the emperor, whose wishes were absolute; none could hope for success save through skekZok. The other Skeksis he sought to control through the prophecies he invented, the false apparitions he conjured. Too late he found that the Emperor raised favorites only to enjoy the pleasure of their fall, caring for them not at all; and that the other Skeksis all practiced their own secret divinations, which they trusted above his.
He has hieratic dignity and unmatched knowledge of the symbols, the cards, the auguries, and the rituals.
He is the final arbiter in the selection of the Pod chorus. The chorus sings only on ritual occasions. He is a harsh judge and has been known to cross the chamber and tear the head off a singer who fails to sing his part in tune.
SkekOk and skekShod have traditional loyalty to him.
He has a reputation for dignity, his alleged mastery of ceremonial order. He is a sanctimonious creature.
He has flaccid flesh.
The Ritual-Master was always affected to be above the sentiments of pettiness. He ostentatiously devoted himself to a life of hypocritical piety. He fancied himself to be at his best when rabid cruelty and high ceremony were mixed.
He has a sacrificial knife with a long, brilliant blade.
