“This was the most heavily storyboarded movie I've ever done. But it was necessary because the discrepancies in scale between one creature and another often made it difficult to compose. By storyboarding you could find ways to shoot the creatures individually, against parts of the sets.” -Oswald Morris
Sketch artists storyboard the film to show how the action might look before filming begins. Several thousand storyboards were made for The Dark Crystal.

According to the following storyboards, the Landstriders were originally a giant insect-like creature called Leapers (Land spiders?). Kira calls them with a horn.
