urSkeks

Born of the Crystal before it became dark , the urSkeks were noble beings shining with an inner light. In attempting to perfect themselves they instead tore themselves apart to become two distinct races, Mystics and Skeksis. Only if Jen succeeded in his quest could the urSkeks be born again and the world of the Dark Crystal become whole once again.

Upright and tall with an inner light of beauty that streamed from them always, the urSkeks arrived during a conjunction of the Three Suns. Thinkers and creators, they built the castle from which they ruled the land before they were split asunder, becoming both urRu (Mystics) and Skeksis.

Centuries ago, the Skeksis and urRu were the same beings. But in a quest for self-improvement, these creatures gathered around the mighty Crystal and were split asunder. The Skeksis are the perversion of the power who remained.

When the urSkeks chant all the crystals of Thra reverberate.

A long time ago, the Castle was a mountain. The urSkeks cut the castle out of the mountain rock.

Thrice times six were the urSkeks.

They seem distilled from golden light rather than made of substance.  The stand tall and erect.

Visible energy pours from their heads.  In their faces is the combined wisdom of the urRu and the knowledge of the Skeksis.

Space is perceived by the urSkeks as essentially triangular.  A surface, to them, has three dimensions, each by out reckoning at 120 degrees to the other two, so none is completely separate; movement in any one alters one's position in the other two.  UrSkek architecture, therefore, aspires toward the triangular.

The following are the names of nine of the urSkeks:

UngIm

SoSu

ZokZah

SilSol

AyukAmaj

NaNol

OkAc

ShodYod

EktUtt

The true names are more in the nature of honorific titles.
